Pig trotters in black vinegar (aka, zhu jiao chu)

We're making this to bring to grandma and grandpa's house tomorrow... it has to be stewed for awhile.

zhu jiao chu
The ingredients... 750ml black vinegar, 1 tbs oil, 60g brown sugar, 5 hard boiled eggs, 1 ts salt, 250g ginger, 600g pig trotters.

so first, we fry the ginger in a dry wok, no oil, till it's dry and looks a little brown:

then add oil...:

add the pig trotters after removing the hairs (The trotters has to be boiled for awhile, not till cooked, then remove hair, clean and cut into chunks).

cook for 10 minutes or so, before adding the vinegar.:

we kinda changed to a ceremic pot at this point, cos we were scared that there'd be a chemical reaction between the vinegar and the metal pot...

then we left it to simmer awhile... before adding the eggs:

the eggs after half an hour or so of simmering... the thing's more or less cooked.:

leave it in the ceramic pot, don't have to put into the fridge... will have to simmer again for an hour tomorrow, before grandma and grandpa can taste it.

first attempt at cinnamon bun making

We tried a recipe for Cinnamon buns from a chinese book named "How to make breads"... Results turned out pretty well, actually...

Cutting the dough into equal width

cinammon buns
arrange the cut pieces of dough on a baking tray that has been brushed with either cooking oil, or butter. Cover and leave the dough to prove till it has doubled or more in size

our batch on the left expanded quite abit... the one on the right was just made... we'll glaze it with egg yolk, and put into the preheated oven for 18 minutes...
